Acquiring clean, relevant and accurate data is a huge issue for most of the hospitals. Moreover, EHR data doesn’t match with patient reported data. A new study found out that only 23% EHR data matched with patient reported data and this is where organizations need to work further.
2. Storing Big Data
Here comes one of the most serious challenges for big data as well as healthcare sector. As the name shows big data is literally huge. It requires a lot of space to be stored and reused whenever needed. There are no robust and efficient storage options or systems for the healthcare except maybe DICOM, PACS, and RIS premier radiology. However, the adoption of cloud services is somehow making things possible and easy when it comes to storing big data.
3. Cleaning of Data
Cleaning of big data is finding and separating the best relevant, usable and correct patient data. This is another issues for many professional and doctors. They have huge data so it becomes really hard for them to find out the best and accurate data that can later be used for research, development and other purposes.
4. Security Challenges
Security of the big data is even a bigger challenge than all of the above mentioned ones. Most of the hospitals and healthcare sector is focusing on improving security of the patient related big data. But they have concerns in light of the recent data breaches and hacking attacks. This calls for more secure actions, better and improved security.
5. Utilization of Data
What is the purpose of the big data? To get answers of some questions that are yet unanswered. The huge amount of data makes it easy for the researchers to define questions and get their answers from this data. But this has also become a problem for the healthcare sector. Doctors and researchers are unable to fully utilize this data and extract the important answers.
6. Data Sharing Issues
At the moment, data sharing for healthcare sector is a serious issue. The data that can be used, shared with other healthcare professionals and departments in a hospital is not possible. There is a need of solutions that can make it happen so that better treatment is ensured, patients get faster and more instant services and patients can also be referred to other hospitals and doctors.
7. Updating Challenges
Updating health data of the patients is an important thing and is a challenge at the moment according to RIS imaging guys. Patient health reports, disease signs, test results and reports and such other data needs to be changed often. But patient address, contacts and other details are not often updated. The big data should allow the hospital staff to make such changes for updating the data in order to keep it more relevant and updated.
